R is for Rocket

Updated: Jun 25, 2021

Rah Rah Rocket!

We learned all about the letter R!

I like adding crafts to correlate with the letter we are learning about to encourage letter association with words. It also allows me to keep the boys interested in the letter lesson!

To make our rockets, we painted paper towel rolls and cut triangles out of their favorite color construction paper for wings and the nose. You can trace out the triangles so the kids can cut them out themselves! I also added some cut outs of yellow and orange for flames out of the back but you could also use tissue paper if you have some left over. They decorated the rocket with stickers too!

To add to the letter "curriculum" Eric (5yo) will write the capital and lower case letter 5 times and Liam (3yo) will trace the letters but if he isn’t in the mood I cut the letters and have him sort them into capital and lower case groups.

It’s a fun activity and the boys loved putting their little lego figurines in them and send them to space. I love seeing them engaged and loving their creations!

The letter R books we were read are

- Curious George Roller Coaster By Houghton Mifflin

- R is for Robot by Adam F Watkins

- The Rhythm of the Rain By Grahame Baker-Smith

- Run wild by David Covell
