Our Martha’s Vineyard Family Trip

Marthas Vineyard has stolen all of our hearts! This was our first time visiting the island and hit all the touristy spots. We went after Labor Day missing a lot of the crowds and congestion with the absolute perfect weather, sunshine and high 70’s. With having 3 young boys it made for a smooth and enjoyable visit. The main towns we checked out were Edgartown, Oaks Bluff and Aquinnah.

Edgartown is absolutely beautiful! We rented a beautiful home for 3 nights in Edgartown. The neighborhoods had beautiful colonial style homes with a lot of natural landscaping keeping their houses looking very private! Downtown was a beautiful New England coastal town all walkable on cobblestone sidewalks with cute store fronts and amazing dinning. We ate dinner at The Atlantic with a beautiful view of the harbor. We had ice cream at Mad Martha’s. They have the cutest outside area to enjoy and just love the name!

The Alpaca Institute is in Edgartown too. The boys loved seeing the Alpacas spit and take pictures in the wood Alpaca cut out. They have a cute gift store with Alpaca wool scarfs, sweatshirts, gloves, baby footsies and Alpaca stuffed Animals. They also have one on one Alpaca walks! The boys enjoyed their Alpaca shaped lollipops!

Oaks Bluff was a little more touristy! We had breakfast at Linda’s bought Martha’s Vineyard sweatshirts and stuffed animal sharks at the boutiques.

We checked out the adorable Flying Horses Carousel, the oldest operating carousel in the country but only during season so we just missed a ride on it! There are hundreds of little gingerbread houses in the neighborhood right next to the carousel. The houses were bright pinks, reds, blues with gorgeous flower gardens and the paths were shaded with tall trees!

My absolute favorite part were the Aquinnah Cliffs! The overlook had an interesting story about a Wampanaug tribe member named Moshup who caught whales and then would kill them on the cliffs leaving the blood to stain the cliffs red! I wasn’t expecting that one but very interesting! The cliffs were magnificent with the Gay Head light house in sight!

I was very excited to take walk on the beach next to the cliffs so I decided to watch the sunrise at Lucy Vincent Beach. The cliffs were still in sight with smaller ones on this beach and huge rocks in the middle of the sand! The sunrise with the orange and red rocks and cliffs was just breath taking!

The ferry rides to and from were very convenient and fast. We had so much fun on Martha’s Vineyard I already can’t wait to go back and enjoy the beaches and find local gems!
